Before it begins, or even if it has, talk about bullying to your children to make sure they are properly prepared for this potential life-changing event. This almost inevitable part of life is something you must discuss, even though it may frighten them. Avoidance, though not necessarily the best option, is a good one to use if you want your kids to stay away from bullies. If there’s a particular place where bullying is likely to occur, your kids will probably know about it. As long as your children stay in a supervised area, they will usually be safe from this type of interaction. Being aware of that they may be bullied is one thing, but kids should not be afraid of being bullied as this could be unhealthy overtime. There are instances where a parent does not want to admit that their own child may be the bully. You should be watchful for any signs that your child is a bully. You need to observe your child and how he or she relates to others, as well as animals. Bullies have a tendency to try and take charge of those around them in a bossy way. If these tendencies are apparent in your child, rather than throwing that attitude back at them, have a chat. A skilled specialist may be in order to prevent negative circumstances for a bully in their adult years.
Children are not always so honest when it comes to telling their parents about bullying. The bully may have told them to stay silent, or they might feel ashamed. This is why you need to keep an eye out that something is wrong by looking for warning signs. If your child does not want to go to school because of a physical illness, and it is an illness like a stomachache or a headache which is hard to verify, then they may be attempting to avoid school for some other reason. If something is wrong then your child will be more open with you should you always ask them about how their day at school, or after school was. You can’t, however, always count on them telling you without any prompting. Bullying can be dished out in several forms, like intimidation or maybe even bodily assault, or the internet; just to name a few. If a child is made to feel afraid, ashamed or bad about him or herself by others, chances are some type of bullying is going on.
